The Locale in Houston is Home, Away From Home
It's been a hot minute since I last posted here on The G Spot, but I'm back and ready to post some reviews. I spent the better half of October traveling, to Denver for MileHi Con, a literary fantasy and science fiction convention, and Houston for an audition to MasterChef. I'll post more about that at a later date. For now I'd like to talk about the hotel I stayed in while I was in Houston because it was absolutely amazing!
Because I was auditioning for MasterChef and would need a hotel with a full kitchen available I started looking on Expedia, my favorite travel reservation site, for suites. However, all of the hotels I found with such commodities were either way too expensive for what I was looking for, or appeared a wee bit sketchy. I've said it before -- I am a self-declared hotel snob and I'm okay with that.
There's a new trend with many of the upscale apartment buildings in various cities where they hire a separate hotel/leasing company to turn a few of their units into short stay hotel units. The Locale Uptown Galleria in Houston, Texas is just such a one. Located inside the Amli apartment complex in the Galleria, the unit I rented was easily as big as my apartment at home (1200 sq. ft.) with two bedrooms and bathrooms, a lovely dining and living room area, and a gorgeous kitchen equipped with brand new appliances, including a gas range stove! Not only that, but there was a set of chef knives in the block, excellent cookware, utensils, ultra nice coffee maker with tons of coffee and tea options -- there was even bake ware in case you felt like whipping up some homemade muffins on your stay. I've stayed in apartment hotels before, but usually they're pretty barebones so I was more than pleasantly surprised.
The entire apartment was beautifully decorated, as well. The beds were super comfy king-sized, and the bathrooms stocked with all of the amenities you would need. The apartment also came with parking, access to the pool and gym, and was within a couple of blocks of amazing restaurants and shopping. Lastly, the apartment staff at the front desk were gracious and pleasant and happy to help me find my way to the apartment. This is definitely a 180 from my last experience where the front desk seemed perturbed I was staying there.
And all of this for less than what some of the local hotels were charging! I will definitely be staying at The Locale from now on when I travel to Houston. And you should too! For special requests or questions about the property, please call the hotel directly at Tel: +1 5125807606.
