Ghost Pizza Austin is Spookily Delicious
To do our part for #TakeoutTuesday my roommate ordered up a couple of pies from a brand spanking new pizza shop on South Lamar in Austin called Ghost Pizza. Not only is the name adorable and plays to my little goth heart, but the descriptions of their pies sounded out of this world. I'm not sure if the current pricing is introductory or as a result of the #COVID19 restaurant closures, but right now a massive 16" pizza is between $10 and $13. No, seriously. You read that right. Right now they don't have a gluten-free option, but I can only assume that will be coming soon. After all, it's Austin, one of the health-nut capitals of America.
The pies roomie ordered were the "Phantom Shrooms" ($13) with house-made mozzarella, fontina, provolone, gorgonzola, mushrooms, and truffle oil, and the "Poltergeist" ($12) with house-made mozzarella, provolone, house-made sausage, broccoli rabe, and chili flakes. Unfortunately, being that we had had a couple of drinks being that we're in apartment jail these days, we dove into the pizza before I could snap a few pics, but the images I pulled here from their Facebook give you an idea of the glorious nature of these New York style pizzas.
While I can go for a good deep-dish Chicago pie once in a while, thin crispy, yet foldable crust is where it's at for me. The crust made by Ghost Pizza is light and flaky, with the perfect amount of chew. The slices are big enough to fold, as well. Which made me smile and think of the northeast. The toppings, however. Whoa. Stop the press. Talk about decadent! While layered relatively thinly, the superb high quality and attention to artisan craftsmanship makes every single bite feel luxurious and sensual. These are no run-of-the-mill bulk purchased Sysco truck ingredients. No sir!
You can taste the thought and passion that has gone into the creation of these pies. It is hard to not keep going back for thirds, fourths, or just eat the whole pie in one sitting. But I managed... They also have incredible wings, salads, and you can even have them deliver a 6-pack of beer with your order.
If you're looking for a deviation from the pizza norm here in Austin, Texas, be sure to look up Ghost Pizza (www.ghost.pizza) and order up a few pies. You will most definitely not be disappointed! And tell them I sent ya. Because I'll be ordering from them on the regular.
